ABOUT US

Recycle the Raindrops is a Chicago-based grassroots non-profit organization that recruits local artists to paint rain barrels for placement in high pedestrian public areas.

The barrels use public art to raise consciousness about water conservation and reuse. Each barrel provides a tag of dramatic water facts. Our message is simple, but powerful—many Chicagoans do not realize how precious water is since the bounty of Lake Michigan is in our backyard.

CHICAGO FACTS

The Great Lakes supply 20% of Earth's fresh surface water and 95% of the nation's fresh surface water. Only 1% of the water in the Great Lakes is renewed each year; the City of Chicago's Department of Water Management purifies nearly
1 billion gallons of water per day
